Recently, the 26th “Legal Career Development Forum” of SUFE was convened smoothly. 50 plus distinguished guests from academia, law firms, the judiciary, and the corporate sector gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on three core themes: legal education, discipline development, and career guidance.
Mr Jin Chunqing, Senior Partner of Shanghai Fangben Law Firm, is a seasoned practitioner deeply engaged in AI legal governance, providing compliance, investment, and technology regulatory services to multiple European, U.S. and Hong Kong-listed companies. He engaged in multi-dimensional and cross-disciplinary dialogues on topics ranging from the shifting global economic landscape and the impact of frontier technologies like AI on higher education and legal studies, to curriculum reform and student career guidance. Furthermore, he presented a systematic analysis centered on “AI Technological Transformation and Emerging Issues in International Rule of Law.”

Lawyer Jin pointed out that artificial intelligence is no longer merely a technical tool, but is increasingly becoming a critical variable in national competition, industrial dynamics, and international security. He noted that the trend of AI “weaponization” is becoming evident. Consequently, legal risks are expanding from traditional areas such as data compliance, privacy protection, and algorithmic discrimination to broader domains including national security, international conflicts, and global governance. This shift has transformed AI from a purely domestic legislative matter into a quintessential subject of international and comparative law. Drawing on his practical experience in providing cross-border compliance, AI risk control, and data governance services to numerous Eurpoean, U.S. and Hong Kong-listed companies, Mr. Jin predicted that corporate demand for “AI legal professionals” is set to grow exponentially. Such professionals, he emphasized, must not only possess a solid grasp of legal rules but also deeply understand technological logic, industrial structures, and the dynamics of international competition.
Lawyer Jin offered specific advice to the students in attendance: those who wish to pursue a career in AI law should return to the fundamental principles of technology, rather than remaining at the level of policy documents or public discourse. Truly competitive legal professionals, he emphasized, shall develop an “penetrating
insight” in order to play a role in future institutional design and practice.
